Eclipse defines Contemporary Arrangements.

The design displays arrangements of colour, shape and form.

Highly technical, Eclipse involves bentwood and brick laminating, solid timber veneering, edge veneering and scarf joins for seamless grain continuity.

The piece also utilises the process of ebonising to create a striking contrast of colour in the top. It is also used to focus attention on the shape of the tables’ legs by cancelling out any grain pattern.

Ebonising is a process of turning timber black by creating a permanent, chemical reaction on the timbers surface. It is often used to make oak look like ebony, but can be applied to any timber that has a high tannin content.

Firstly, steel wool is dissolved in acetic acid over a period of two weeks. The solution is then wiped onto the raw timber, which reacts with the timbers natural tannins. If the timber is high in tannin, as jarrah is, the reaction will be strong and the timber will turn instantly black.

Ebonising the legs also provided a harmonious connection between the base and the top, with the black legs flowing into the tops outer ring on the under-side of the table.
