He completed the 3-year course in just 2 years, by doing his stage 2 and stage 3 workload simultaneously. He won the colleges Cabinetmaking Apprentice award in 2001.

Nathan completed a 4-year apprenticeship with John Streater Fine Furniture in Yallingup. John is a well-respected and internationally renowned local craftsman and the opportunity to learn the skills of furniture making in such an environment was an amazing foundation.

Nathan went on to become a finalist in the Training Excellence Awards, Apprentice of the year in 2002. This was in the final year of his apprenticeship.

In 2003 Nathan traveled to the U.K. where he met the world famous furniture designer John Makepeace.

After seeing the exceptional quality of fine English furniture, Nathan decided that he should seek an opportunity to train in the U.K. and take his skills to a new level.

He returned to Australia and in 2004 applied for an Australian Overseas Foundation Scholarship, which he was awarded in mid 2005.

In March 2006 Nathan was offered a 1-year traineeship with one of the U.K’s most prestigious furniture making workshops, The Edward Barnsley Workshop, in Petersfield Hampshire. He would become the workshops first ever paid trainee and the first Australian to be trained to the Barnsley standard in the workshop’s 85-year history.

Nathan spent 12 months training along side some of the world’s finest craftsmen.

In September 2007 Nathan started his business, Nathan Day Furniture and Design, in a shared workshop in Yallingup Western Australia. He began work immediately on a collection of luxury, limited edition furniture that would later be named Contemporary Arrangements and be launched as his first complete collection.
